We are professional horsebox manufactures of many years and specialise in the 3.5ton range usually based around the excellent well tried and tested Renault Master LWB extra high roof. The Vauxhall Movano is also commonly used which is the same van just carrying a Vauxhall badge. Most come with a powerful very economical 2.5L diesel engine and 6 speed gearbox making them extremely light and easy to drive, ideal for Ladies to own and operate alone.
These vans are the number one for small horsebox conversion for many reasons. Firstly they are extremely reliable and capable of reaching well over 300,000 miles of comfortable cost affective use. We fully service all ours vans prior to sale and do the all important cambelt with full tension set fitted at the same time. You can therefore expect to receive a first class vehicle capable of many miles of trouble free use. There is no point converting a poor van as often the conversion costs more than the van. The quality of the van has to match the quality of the conversion. Although we don’t offer any guarantee or warranty on the mechanics of the base van as if normal from all suppliers you are welcome and invited to have the van fully inspected prior to purchase. We do offer a full 12month warranty on the conversion part of the box.
Secondly, these vans are extremely economical to use, often returning 38mpg and attract very low insurance premiums so ideal as anybody can drive these vans from a 17 year old on a standard UK driving license. As stated in more detail we design our horseboxes with a 7 stone lady driver in mind.
Now to clarify the false claims made from others about this type of box and explain why one similar looking box maybe totally different from ours.
The biggest problem and most commonly asked question is how much can they carry and what size horse height wise can they accommodate. We see in every advert selling this type that the payload is 1250kg and will take with ease two rear facing horses up to 17.2hands. Well yes this is true in a correctly designed one using the right materials in the right place. But what is not made clear is this claimed figure of 1250kg is with all other added weight included such as driver/passenger/fuel/tack and so on. Very often this can add in excess of 400kg, leaving 850kg for the horse/s. You can clearly see if you intend to load 2 big 17h horse your very quickly on the wrong side of the law.
All our vans are designed correctly using aluminium where possible to maximise the available load capacity. We also always provide a empty weight measurement so you know the starting point. Remember it is you who ends up in court if overweight not us, so firstly buy the right box and be realistic about its capabilities.
To address the height issue. Please view the short video we have showing a 16.2 horse being loaded and you will see there is room to spare. So yes these boxes will take 17h horses but you have to also rely on the cooperation of the horse. If calm and used to travelling no problem, but if a spooky nervous type Id think twice and maybe do a few short schooling runs first.
Facing backwards has been proven to be the best way to transport a horse , so this type of box does offer the horse/s a very comfortable environment to travel, reducing stress levels and potential problems.
The full specification of our boxes is detailed below but please ask about your actual box as we do build many variations of the standard spec so please treat this specification as a guideline and not a guarantee yours is identical. But we adopt the same principles in all our builds and we focus very heavily on these key points.
Firstly the box has to be safe both for the horse and the operator so where strength is required it will not be sacrificed to save weight. Equally while we fully appreciate the look and aesthetics are important we again will not sacrifice strength just to make it look pretty. We don’t just manufacture these boxes but as horse owners ourselves we use them daily and trust me there will come a time with all owners when our build quality is tested by a difficult horse and you will then appreciate the strength and quality we build too. I see all too often fantastic looking boxes with shinny aluminium everywhere which looks amazing but it just does not have the same mechanical strength of box section steel no matter how pretty it appears. Remember your buying a box to safely carry two 600kg lumps of muscle not a room to sip pimps from.
Secondly ease of use, The vast majority of this type of box are used by ladies and small ones at that. It is with this in mind we design all our boxes to be extremely easy to use and operate. The ramp top and bottom are light enough for one small lady to comfortable lift and close herself. The internal partition is again designed for strength and ease of use by our small lady. If the spec includes a removable breast bar again this can be removed by our lady operator.

ReplyDeleteWe have just bought a box of this man. Took it for a service before letting my daughter drive to horse camp Within an hour of leaving the garage we had a phone call from the owner saying that the box is un roadworthy and should not have an mot. It passed in January this year I am now reporting the issue to VOSA. On doing some research he has changed his name by deed poll and it is looking like he has been prosecuted for behaving this way as a horse dealer. He is also a ragdoll kitten farmer!
